Omega Oil comes in Omega-3, Omega-6 and Omega-9 and each Omega base has importance to general health, as well as the concentration and ratios of these omegas.
In general for each omega range we have,
Omega-3
Seen as the most potent of the omega fatty acids and has been linked to support for cardiovascular health by helping reduce cholesterol levels in the body, as omega-3 contains DHA and EPA. Omega-3 is also important for brain, joint and eye health.
Omega-6
Plays a role in skin, hair and joint health. it is believed that having the correct ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 is important for optimum health and some western diets actually have too much omega-6.
Omega-9
A non essential fatty acid produced naturally by the body whenever there is enough of either Omega 3 and 6 essential fatty acids. However, if you do not have enough omega 3 and omega 6, then you must get omega 9 from your diet. This fatty acid plays a role in promoting heart health by supporting healthy, balanced cholesterol levels and improving immune function.
Flax Seed Oil vs Fish Oil
Flaxseed (Linseed) Oil contains ALA (alpha-linolenic acid) that is not available in fish oil and with ALA, the body can produce DHA and EPA, but the requirements also use up other essential elements. The simply answer is if you are eating fish at least 3 times a week then a Flaxseed Oil supplement will ideal but if you’re not then a fish oil with some ALA nutrition (walnuts, hemp seed) would be beneficial. Otherwise a supplement of both fish and flax oil would be most beneficial.
